The Earldom of Bear's Grasp, once known as the "Belt of the Bite" or the Muzzle, was a large earldom within the The Bite that spanned from the Barony of Shorfall to the Barony of Graston, forming a sort of barrier of power for the House of Cobalstant to control the Bite. Ruled by the lords of the Viscounty of the Fang exclusively, it was a constant source of Cobalstant authority until their eventual demise. The Earldom was disbanded under Haverin Grayblade who intended to dismantle the extremely centralized power of the Bite (namely due to the inability to run near half of the entire region alone) for a more favorable distributed form. This was never seen to fruition due to the destruction of Bannhurst. Though it no longer existed in name, the Muzzle was still seen to partially exist under Haverin's son Berenal Grayblade, who held the lands that made up the region for some time.
The Earldom is officially dissolved from the Duke's decree following the defeat of the Blades of None, being split into the Barony of the Gull under now-Baroness Iris Beaumond and the Viscounty of Graston.
