Lord Taeric Grimwold III was an Earl of Taenia, and the former lord of the House of Grimwold, believed to having been slain during the Invasion of Gilneas by the Forsaken and the Kor'kagal Warband. Taeric was believed to have been killed by one of his former lords, Torick Kollivare, and was supposedly forced to watch his city burn then was slain and raised as an undead. Taeric raged in captivity, even in undeath, as he watched Taeriean's Bulwark become Grimwold's Fall, growing to hate his conquerers even in his changed form. Robbed of the knowledge of the fate of his children, Taeric gave up hope until he was freed by loyalist forces in the middle of the night.

It was later found that this was true, though he was freed from a planned captivity by the Duchy of the Ashen Coast. He was revealed as undead shortly after an incitement of hostilities between the orcs and undead in the Dredge, but was allowed to continue his service. It was revealed that Taeric was a rather proliferate mage, having kept himself shrouded the entire time.

Taeric ultimately sacrificed himself at the Northern Redirons to prevent the remaining Grimsheer host from descending on the Blades that were attacking the Kollspire. Not wanting them to be swarmed from behind, the original charges that were meant to destroy the gate were not going off due to orcish tampering. While originally intending to set them and run, Taeric was injured by the sacrifice of several Eagle Knights, then ultimately the orcs themselves. Speaking to his children one final time over the communicators, Taeric ignited the charges at the cost of his own life, causing the gates to collapse ontop of him and the orcs inside, killing Burga Grimsheer and himself. His last words were that he was to rest with his wife, and his house's motto.

His soul later appeared during the battle with Torick Kollivare, bound by the Kollspire. He aided his children and allies one final time, delivering the final blow to Torick before passing on, seeing the vision of his wife beckoning him to his well earned rest.
